What would it mean to future generations if the collective knowledge drawn from history and science about addiction, addiction treatment, and recovery simply disappeared? As more and more addiction libraries and databases close, that question is a critical one. You can help to preserve these priceless collections.
The association of Substance Abuse Librarians and Information Specialists (SALIS) is building a digital archive of important books and reports in the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug (ATOD) field in partnership with the Internet Archive. “The SALIS Collection” is available to anyone, anywhere in the world, for FREE! Some books can be read online, e-borrowed, and, in some cases, even downloaded, depending on copyright status.
The UW Alcohol & Drug Abuse Institute has contributed nearly 100 books to the collection, including texts by UW researchers Dennis Donovan, Ann Streissguth, and Alan Marlatt.
The SALIS Collection, currently featuring over 1500 books, is growing, but needs your help to continue adding books! It costs about $30 to digitize a book and make it available to the entire world. To help SALIS reach its goal of $6,000 – 200 books digitized – the SALIS Executive Board will match the first $1,000 donated on Giving Tuesday.
There are two ways you can support the SALIS Collection:
Support SALIS on Giving Tuesday, November 28th! The crowdfunding platform Razoo* is waiving its platform fees on Giving Tuesday, maximizing your donation! Donate on Nov. 28th here: https://www.razoo.com/story/saliscollection
Make a donation any time, through the SALIS Website, http://salis.org. From there, you will have the option of donating through PayPal or mailing a check to SALIS Home.
SALIS needs your help to continue to build the collection, book by book! Please help preserve this valuable history. SALIS is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
Thank you!
