Molly Carney of Evergreen Treatment Services to receive award for Excellence in Advocacy

Molly Carney, PhD, MBA, Director of Evergreen Treatment Services, will receive the Excellence in Advocacy – Individual Achievement award from the National Council for Behavioral Health next month in Seattle.

The National Council for Behavioral Health is the unifying voice of America’s mental health and addictions treatment organizations. Its annual Awards of Excellence honor the advocates and leaders advancing public policies that support improved quality of and access to care, organizations that promote excellence and build health communities, and the achievements of individuals with mental illnesses and addictions, their family members, and the professionals who care for them.

Dr. Carney, a clinical psychologist and researcher since 1986, is a former Research Scientist at the UW's Alcohol & Drug Abuse Institute. She is now Executive Director of Evergreen Treatment Services, a private, nonprofit agency offering medication-assisted treatment for adults with opioid use disorders since 1973. ETS is affiliated with the Pacific NW Node of NIDA's Clinical Trials Network.

 

Free Buprenorphine Training for SW Washington, May 19

Are you considering how to help control the opioid epidemic? Regional providers will offer a half-day training on buprenorphine for the treatment of opioid dependence. This highly effective treatment blocks craving and withdrawal symptoms and allows patients to build a healthier life. Compared to detox with or without counseling, buprenorphine-naloxone can reduce the risk of overdose related deaths by 50%.

When: Friday, May 19, 2017, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. 

Where: Olympia, WA (registrants will receive the address when confirmed)

Target audience: Physicians from any specialty, nurse practitioners (ARNP) and physician assistants ( PA-C). Preference will be given to providers in Southwest Washington if the course is over subscribed. The training is also helpful for nurse case managers and others working on the treatment team.

Format: Registered providers will be send the 4 hour online training to be completed before this session. Completion of the online and in-person training provides the required eight hours for physicians to request a DEA waiver to prescribe buprenorphine. ARNP and PA-Cs who will need to complete an additional 16 hours of approved training prior to submitting their waiver request. (As of this date ASAM has a 16 hour course approved that is available on line.)
