Earlier this week, the National Institutes of Health convened a two-day Marijuana and Cannabinoids: A Neuroscience Research Summit focused on the neurological and psychiatric effects of marijuana, other cannabinoids, and the endocannabinoid system, as well as policy. Both the adverse and the potential therapeutic effects of the cannabinoid system were discussed.
The goal of the summit is to ensure evidence-based information is available to inform practice and policy, particularly important at this time given the rapidly shifting landscape regarding the recreational and medicinal use of marijuana. The meeting was sponsored by NIDA, NIAAA, NCCIH, NIMH, and NINDS.
