The Center on Alcoholism, Substance Abuse & Addiction (CASAA) at the University of New Mexico is conducting a study about MI training for substance abuse providers (in many disciplines), and posts the notice below to potential participants.
Are you interested in receiving free motivational interviewing training?
We are currently conducting a randomized control trial funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (Grant #1R01DA021227-01A1) in which we will be providing free motivational interviewing training to providers (counselors, psychologists, medical doctors, social workers, nurses) who work in the field of substance abuse. We are recruiting providers who have minimal experience with motivational interviewing and work in a not-for-profit setting. One person per agency or setting will be able to participate in this study.
The goal of this study is to test two different strategies for training providers in motivational interviewing. All participants will attend a two-day motivational interviewing training in New Mexico taught by Theresa Moyers, Ph.D. and William Miller, Ph.D. Travel and accommodations will be subsidized. Participants are asked to submit a pretraining audio work sample of a therapy session with an actual client. Following training, participants will be asked to submit three more audio work samples one week, six months, and 12 months after the training. Participants will be paid $75 (with a $25 bonus for timeliness) for each of the three post-training audio work samples.
