The Seattle Times reports on a new program which will provide housing for 75 homeless men and women who are among Seattle's worst-case chronic alcoholics. Residents selected for the program will have been addicted to alcohol for at least 15 years and failed at alcohol treatment at least six times. Most are accustomed to living on the streets and spending nights in emergency rooms, detox centers or jail cells. The project, sponsored by the Downtown Emergency Service Center, is the first of its kind in Washington, and only the second in the country, to offer housing exclusively for homeless chronic alcoholics.
