This life skills intervention curriculum intends to provide Native youth with the opportunity to develop skills to help them make choices that motivate positive actions while avoiding the hazards of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. The Medicine Wheel / Canoe Journey metaphor is used as a way to teach life skills. The curriculum is designed to be used in a group setting. The Seattle Indian Health Board and the Addictive Behaviors Research Center at the University of Washington collaborated to develop the manual over three years as a part of the Journeys of the Circle project.
